The following video shows you how this all began. It was in an apartment complex driveway—on cinder blocks—with a goal to race with the big boys.

 

Batlground Motorsports, LLC (Formerly Batlground Engineering) was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 2001. The company was established to provide performance oriented services and products to customers in the South Eastern United States. The Batlground facility houses an all wheel drive Dynojet dyno, a full service automotive garage and all the necessary tools and equipment to provide custom fabrication work. Batlground’s main objective is to always offer quality, performance and reliability to its customers. In a short span of time as a motorsports based company Batlground has achieved huge success and has developed numerous vehicles that perform and consistently break records in various racing series. In short, we are known for making power and building quality purpose built cars.

Company Highlights:

• 2009-2010: Landed 2 automotive reality television shows, Bullrun on The Speed Channel and Ultimate Car Buildoff on The Discovery Channel.
• 2005-2007: Batlground became the most photographed and televised drifting team in the United States.
• 2006-2007: Record breaking horsepower number’s produced with the Batlground Evolution 8. Held the title as the quickest and fastest Evolution 8 in GA and quickest and fastest full weight Evolution 8 on the country. 755 awhp, 10.55 @125 mph in the ¼ mille
• 2003-2004: Record breaking horsepower number’s produced with the Batlground Toyota Supra enabled that accomplished quarter mile time records in the Pro Street Tire class of the NDRA. ~1400 rwhp, 8.58 @ 165 mph in the ¼ mile
• 2001-2002: Built the first 1000 rwhp Toyota Supra in GA and 3rd in the US.

Daniel Willie, The Mad Scientist

Batlground’s team/shop owner, Daniel Willie, has an extensive background in engineering, building, driving and race team management. In 2001, he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with an degree in engineering and used his knowledge to open Batlground Engineering later that year. His degree provides him with an excellent understanding of all aspects of building, tuning and maintaining race prepared vehicles, in addition to the street vehicles he prepares for customers as his primary business. From his extensive experience with custom fabrication and installation to wide spread knowledge of internal combustion engines and heat exchangers, Daniel has the knowledge to build, prepare and keep the Batlground customer vehicles running at the top of their game.

Personal Highlights:

• 2009: Team leader for Discovery Channel’s Ultimate Car Buildoff.
• 2007: Achieved 2nd place in NOPI Drift‘s season championship points.
• 2005: Moved into the world of drifting becoming the only professionally licensed driver in both Formula Drift and NOPI drift out of Georgia in 2006-2007.
• 2003: While driving, as well as managing the Batlground drag racing program, piloted his Toyota Supra deep into 8-second quarter mile times.
• 2002: Earned pro NHRA drag racing license.

Tracy Shayhorn, Car Chick

Batlground team driver and shop marketing manager, Tracy Shayhorn has extensive experience in the automotive industry. While her first priority is shop marketing manager, being a driver runs a very close second. Tracy began in the automotive industry in 2002 as the front desk manager for Batlground. With her adventurous spirit, she soon became bored quoting jobs and answering phone calls while her significant other and business partner, Dan, had fun doing what she harbored a hidden desire to accomplish; to find herself behind the wheel and in control of the racecars built by Batlground. Most recently, Tracy has become known as a TV personality on Speed TV and has used her media platforms to encourage and empower women to feel more comfortable in the male dominated automotive and motorsports arena’s by starting up all women driving schools and automotive basics workshops also for women. In doing so, she has developed a strong female fanbase, with whom she shares a strong connection. Her dedication and hard work has proven her to be a very respectable driver, and has earned her an established reputation in the motorsports community. Her impressive track record combined with her dedication to her business as well as her sponsors has gained her just as much credibility than her male counter parts.

Personal Highlights:

• 2010: Competed on Speed TV's reality show, Bullrun, as the driver for Team Lexus.
• 2007: Qualified in NOPI Drift‘s top 32 several times.
• 2006: Earned pro drifting license for NOPI (only female) and Formula Drift (1 of 3 females).
• 2005-2007: Founded amateur drifting competition series, Drift Fury, and traveled nationally to 12 states each year, awarding professional drift licenses in 2006.
• 2005-2006: Became a member of the Batlground Racing drift demonstration team traveling nationally to perform at drift demonstrations for hundreds of thousands of fans at mpotorsports events including the NDRA and Indy Racing League events.
