Below you will find the bios of our women bloggers written by our women bloggers themselves. Beware. I must warn you up front that some of what you read will be funny. Some of what you read will be cute. But then again, some of what you read just might offend you. I want this thing that I am doing to be raw and uncensored. I want the ladies to be able to be themselves, because I have always gotten flack for being me and I know the feeling. All of us here are car chicks and made up of that grit and backbone and jalapeno salsa I was talking about on the vision page. From my standpoint, all of us have our place, and our different personalities are what is gonna make this so interesting.
Tracy Shayhorn is a 32-year-old female with extensive experience in the automotive industry. While her first priority is as a shop owner, being a racecar driver runs a very close second. Tracy began in the automotive industry in 2001 as the front desk manager for her company; Batlground Motorsports, LLC. With her adventurous spirit, she soon became bored quoting jobs and answering phone calls while her significant other and business partner, Dan, had fun doing what she harbored a hidden desire to accomplish; to find herself behind the wheel and in control of the racecars built by Batlground.
Since early 2005, Tracy has been piloting Batlground built drift cars. Tracy became a member of the Batlground Racing drift demonstration team in 2006. The team traveled nationally performing drift demonstrations for thousands of fans at events which included the NDRA drag races and the Indy Racing League. That same year, Tracy founded her own amateur drifting competition series and traveled nationally to 12 states each year for 2 years, awarding professional drift licenses. The year 2006 prooved to be a big year for Tracy; not only was her drift series a success, but it was in that time she earned her own professional drift license. The 2006 and the 2007 seasons would offer her her first shot at professional drifting competitions including NOPI Drift and Formula Drift. Tracy was the only female to compete in the entire season of the professional drift series hosted by NOPI Motorsports — qualifying in the top 32 several times, and she was one of only three professional female drifters in the Formula Drift organization.
Most recently, Tracy has become known as a TV personality making an appearance on the Discovery Channel’s Ultimate Car Buildoff and competing in the third season of Speed TV’s Rally Race reality show, Bullrun. Shayhorn has used these media platforms to encourage and empower women to feel more comfortable in the male dominated automotive and motorsports arena’s. Tracy has developed a strong female fanbase, with whom she shares a strong connection. Her dedication and hard work has proven her to be a very respectable driver, and has earned her an established reputation in the motorsports community. Her impressive track record combined with her dedication to her business as well as her sponsors has gained her just as much, and sometimes more, credibility than her male counter parts.
My name is Becca Stafford. I have been with my hubby Darrick for 8 years. I have 3 children and own a kids consignment shop in Lawrenceville, GA. Between the fam, Darrick's stunt shows, and work I rarely get a chance to get seat time in my 240. I am trying to change this though. I used to ride street bikes back in 2002. I started learning how to ride wheelies and one day I had a mishap. I looped my Gixxer 750 doing a 1st gear sit down wheelie. I could not shake my wreck so I stopped riding for about 6 months. Darrick convinced to me to start riding on the bike with him so I did. We started doing tandum stunts together. In 2007 I decided I wanted another bike of my own so I got a 400 DRZ motard. This bike was so much fun! 2008 rolls around and I have a baby, so I had to sell the DRZ. At the end of 2009 I scooped up my 240. I can't just sit back and watch Darrick stunt all the time, I get ants in my pants :) One day I will be driving better and have a sweet lil whip.
My love affair with cars began thanks to my first boyfriend in high school. I used to go and watch the stock car races with him at a local race track. The driver I loved most was an old man named Mike Hammerly that drove a yellow late model with the number 16H. I thought I had died and gone to heaven the day I got him to sign a picture for me, which I still have and cherish. Although that first boyfriend didn’t last, and that track has been closed down for years, I kept my love of cars and racing.
It only took one drift demo to have me hooked. I knew that was what I wanted to be doing. When I graduated from college and got my first big kids job, I bought my first 240. I knew I loved cars, and that was truly all I knew. It was like an epidemic from there, I was hell bent on learning everything I could about my car to the point that I wouldn’t let anyone else touch it. I felt that if I wanted to drive I should understand how the car works. In the beginning it would take me three times longer than normal to accomplish anything with my car, but the satisfaction I received from completing the job was well worth it. I am glad I have done that now because I respect myself more for it. I still like to be the only one to touch my car, but I understand now that when your friends want to help it really is ok to accept.
Today I own two 240’s, a Nissan Rogue as my daily driver, a Truck and a 26ft Haulmark trailer for transporting. I drift my 1997 240 and am holding on to the other as my “extra” for the inevitable day that is sure to come to anyone who drifts. Although I really want it to, I know my car cannot last forever. The first time I sat in my car, I said aloud, “If you could have a ‘soul-mate’ car… this is mine.” I have never felt so comfortable in a car in my life. My car teaches me something new every time I drive. One of my co-workers has recently named it Christine after the Stephen King film due to the fact that when something goes wrong with my car, it never makes any sense and sometimes fixes itself. It just doesn’t have the “normal” 240 problems… I like to think it just has lots of personality.
I have met so many great and helpful people through drifting. I travel to out-of-state events as much as possible and learn something new everywhere I go. It is much easier than I had ever anticipated to walk up to a group of guys at an event and ask someone to ride along and help me out. I do not think I have ever been turned down when I ask for advice. I know I have come a long way in the past year, but I still want more. I do not think that hunger to drive harder, faster, and better truly goes away; at least I hope it never does.
So here I am at the ripe, old age of 20, haha! (But seriously, I am 20 years old) And I haven’t really done anything with my life… I haven’t traveled. I haven’t gone to college. I don’t even have a job. But I know that I have all the potential and motivation to do anything I want. People have told me to follow my dreams and do what makes me happy but i’ve also heard that you shouldn’t make your hobbies your career. Well here’s what I know… I like cars. Here’s what I’ve heard… “there’s no money in cars”. Well if people never followed their dreams and there was no money in cars, we wouldn’t have performance shops like Batlground, we wouldn’t spend money on car shows and events, and we would never see people like Tracy Shayhorn or Ken Block tearin’ it up on the big screen or small tv… Whatever! I don’t want to miss out on any opportunities. I want to live! I want to drive fast and I want the world to see me! So if this is the beginning of the rest of my life… then this is my warning to the world:
My name is Jacque Resendez and I’m no ordinary girl. I spit like a man, curse like a sailor, slum like a bum, and drive like a woman. And I’m here to fuck shit up.
Well, my name is Corrin Dyar and I am 22 years old. I currently work at a vet’s office; however I am waiting on the opportunity to be able to use my Marketing degree. Someday I would really like to be able to apply my business knowledge and marketing skills and do something interesting in the automotive industry (though I have not decided on what!) I am a newbie when it comes to racing and using proper performance automotive lingo, but that does not mean I’m not a quick learner!! My thirst for speed and attraction to cars pretty much started with my fiancés Subaru STI and kept rolling from my first trip down the drag strip. Since then I have traded in my automatic Mazda3 hatchback for something a little more competitive and have learned how to race in a straight line as well as autocross. I would love to expand some of these skills and become skilled at how to do many other types of racing!!
Recently my fiancé and I have begun learning how to tune our vehicles, starting with our Miata project car. This has been a learning experience for both of us and I am looking forward to being able to better understand how electronic fuel injection works. With this knowledge it is our vision to be able someday to have a performance shops such as Batlground so that we can continue to be immersed in the world of automotive motorsports!
My name is Samantha Russo, but I go by Sam. I have been in the car scene for about 5 years now. Most know me from my Black Scion tC with the pink rims and most recently as the NOS girl. I've won cars shows, done drag racing and now I am on to the next chapter of my life. I'm a work-aholic and I work 2 jobs. One is for NOS and I am a server at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, I love both jobs. I was recently able to purchase my dream car, a 2006 Black Subaru STI and I am one of the only girls apart of 4touge. So now I am more into mountain runs, auto cross, and track days. I'd love to rally one day or a hill climb. I'm a girl, so don't ever think different. I'm just a girl who likes to push the limits, show men that women can do it too and get dirty in the process.
Right now my life is going through some major changes. Nothing is what is was last year, but I am excited with what the future has in store for me. My passion is cars and my dream is to be in the car world the rest of my life. I love it.
The Subaru has been down for about 6 weeks now, sucks. It was sold to me as a POS and I didn't know it. It's currently been completely ripped apart and I am replacing whatever I can to make is solid and make her run right. I will post up the pictures and what we have been doing to get her up and running healthy again.
